Planning your shopping trips in 12DS

Like many of you, I have spent hours gathering up pounds of very valuable loot, only for some cheap vendor to offer me a pittance.  Needless to say I am very disappointed when this happens!
Being a wise person, I read Zedd's excellent book about how not all vendors are created equal.  That book inspired me to look at all the vendors I know.

I decided to spend several hours selling 2 fairly common items to several vendors, and noting the price received from each.  I have included the details below, but my suggestion is simple.  If you are already in the temple and the gate to Heaven's Door is open or will be soon, you can use that vendor.  If you are near Mithrilfin, use one of those vendors.  Otherwise, sell to Sling.  The other vendors aren't worth even attempting unless they are all you can reach at your level.

I forgot to mention one important thing about Sling that you do-gooder paladins can ignore (this only applies to neutral and evil characters):
Sling offers you 2 options. His regular wares, and his special inventory that he has "acquired". His special stuff is good, but the prices he'll give you are REALLY LOW. Like less than 1/2 as much low. If you're going to sell to him, make sure you look only at his regular inventory!

What about all these Life Eater spears I have? Why do they sell better at the Private Shop rather than Sling? Why do they sell even better in HD?

Also, as a benefit for HC characters, they get a better shop than Sling, but not quite as good as HD.
