A Commentary on the Community

Recently Roshnak the Reincarnated returned to the realm after being away a long time. One of the reasons he returend was that his son, @nerd-boyz mentioned that The 12 Dark Secrets had also returned and that the community was alive and thriving. So Rosh decided to see if the hype matched the reality.
Rosh has returned in a few forms to attempt to get re-acquainted with the community, the realm, the rules, and to try to remember where all the secrets are. Thank goodness for the Great Owl. During the first visit, Rosh noticed that the entire realm was in one big party and a LOT of communication happened in the Party channel. Rosh was happy to see that the more experienced characters were offering support, direction, and assistance to the less experienced characters. After getting a few levels and a few days exposure to the community it was noticed that a few of the characters referred to each other not by their character name, but by their player name. As Rosh grew more familiar with the server it became clear that the individuals being referred to by player name were the ones that had been there the longest and worked together the most.
These players had discovered a way to not only help themselves, but to help the newer players also. As soon as one of Rosh's characters had reached a high enough level, these experienced players joined together to take Rosh on a run through Underworld. There was a bard providing buffs for the whole party and negative energy protection for Rosh. There were spell slingers, and melee all working together to get Rosh the keys. Yes, Rosh knew they too were getting experience and riches, but the fact that they all came together to assist him getting his keys made it even more enjoyable. This seems to be the exception to the norm when compared to some of the other online adventures out there where the object is to propel yourself beyond and destroy all other players.
Rosh was browsing the library and noticed his previously published book "Adventuring with Children." One of the children spoken of in that book is @nerd-boyz and he is now a grown man, creating his own adventures with his wife. Rosh is excited that he was reintroduced the 12DS and hopes to soon be one of the ones that others can depend on to help out when adventuring.
To this end, Rosh has started trying to give back. He as been putting items into the community chest in the temple, running to the rescue of lower level characters, helping newcomers find some of the more helpful secrets, and assisting others where possible. He can only hope that the characters assisted will in turn assist others. That is how 12 Dark Secrets seems to work, and it should always be this way.
Consider this a huge "Thank You!" to all those that make 12 DS so awesome. Including but not limited to @lobster for being the host of the world and all the work done in the background, it does not go un-noticed. All the DMs that help keep the players entertained, and all the players that make up the community, Thanks for including Rosh again and making it feel like home.
